New Year's Day: Angkor Wat!

By Aniya Dyer and Roya Ebrahimi-Qajar

On New Year’s Eve, we went to the Phare Circus. We ate a three-course dinner then we watched the circus which was very captivating and interesting. They did acrobatic tricks and flips while telling a story. We came back to the hotel and decided to ring in 2020 by the hotel pool!

Circus fun!

Today, we took a bus to the Angkor Wat temple. It was surreal seeing one of the ancient wonders of the world. We climbed up the stairs to the top of the temple and were able to see the beautiful complex and see the engravings. We were able to learn about the history and culture of Cambodia through the temple, as well as witness many people worshipping.

After Angkor Wat, we had lunch near the temple and cooled off.  We then visited the Angkor Artisans Silk Farm and learned about the process of making silk, from the silkworms to the silk scarves. We were able to see a 67-day life cycle of the worms, within an hour; and we got to see the making of the silk products, and how they were carefully weaved by the women working, taking about four days to make a scarf on a loom. Then, we got to shop for some silk souvenirs to take back home.

After a rest at the hotel and a chance to use the pool, we are headed to dinner and the Night Market this evening.
