Day Seven: Creating a Garden, Building a Wall, and Teaching ESL

By Coley Samuels

Last night, we walked to a nearby restaurant called Haven. It serves a combination of Asian and Western dishes and everyone found something good to eat.

Today both groups did ESL and service projects. In the morning, my group arrived at the Aranh school around 8:00 am. We worked on shoveling dirt and filling the garden up with the dirt. Once we finished filling the garden, we planted cabbage. The school uses the grown cabbage to make money in order to raise money for the school. We finished up the project by 11 am and headed back to the hotel for a break where we swam and ate lunch in the beautiful weather.

After lunch, my group headed back to the Aranh school where we taught English classes to little kids. We played many games like Simon says and four corners. The kids had huge smiles on their faces and had a lot of fun with the games. We taught one class directions words like right, left, straight, and across and the other class different English vocabulary words. While we did this, the other groups finished completing the brick walls that they had been working on for a couple of days.
